Adding transactions

Adding a transaction, or multiple repeated transactions, is simple but the component is rich with features that can make it look more complicated.

Minimum requirements to add a transaction

Only two fields are required to add a transaction: a title and amount. All of the other fields have default values. For example, adding a transaction titled “Dinner” with an amount of “13.07” will automatically select the “Individual transaction” label, repeat once (meaning it will not repeat more than once), and default to the date shown on the component.

Fully customize transactions

The component to add a transaction has 6 different values you can customize for a transaction to make your budget yours. Those are:

Understanding labels

Transactions can be categorized into four labels. Income, primary recurring, secondary recurring, and individual transctions. Ultimately, you are going to determine where each purchase or spend goes.

Here are some ways to understand how to use these labels:

Understanding repeating transactions

A budget is best when it is prolonged and creates a longterm view of your cash flow. The option to repeat transactions was added to make it easier to create a longterm budget. Repeating budgets are best for income or expenses that do not change. However, can still be useful for income/expenses that are similar. That is why the Amount section has a checkbox to add a random amount to the budget. To add a bit of variety to a dynamic income or expense.

All repeating options will currently repeat for a full year.

Add repeating transactions in January to budget a whole calendar year.
There is currently no easy way to update multiple transactions. If a bundled transaction, meaning multiple transactions at once using the repeat transactions option, is added incorrectly you will need to delete the bundled transactions all together and add it again.
Budgiter is still in early development.
